DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers for fabric is a relatively new printing technique that's gaining popularity in the textile and garment industry. It’s a versatile method for creating custom designs and can be applied to a wide range of fabrics, making it an excellent choice for custom apparel, accessories, and home décor.
Types of Fabrics You Can Use with DTF:
Cotton: DTF transfers adhere well to cotton fabrics, making them perfect for t-shirts, hoodies, and other cotton-based garments.
Polyester: DTF also works well with synthetic fabrics like polyester, which is often used for sportswear, activewear, and performance fabrics.
Blends: Fabrics that combine cotton and polyester, or other blends, are compatible with DTF as well.
Dark Fabrics: Unlike some other printing methods, DTF works well on both light and dark fabrics. The white ink layer in the DTF process acts as an under base, allowing for bright colors to show up on dark fabrics.
Direct to Film (DTF) printing involves several steps to ensure a successful transfer.
Materials Needed:
Heat press
Any color fabric
Teflon Sheet or Parchment Paper
Instructions on how to heat press the design:
Preheat your heat press to 320°F (160°C). Place the garment on the heat press and pre-press for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Position the DTF transfer on the garment, with the adhesive side facing down. Place a Teflon sheet or parchment paper over your design. Apply the heat press for 15 seconds with heavy pressure. Peel the Film: After pressing peel the film away slowly. If there are still areas that are not adhering repress. After it is cool remove film. Repress again to be sure it is bonded.
Advantages of DTF Transfers:
High-Quality Prints: DTF allows for vibrant, detailed prints with a wide color gamut.
Versatility: Works on various fabric types, including cotton, polyester, blends, and even non-fabric materials like wood or leather.
No Need for Pre-Treatment: Unlike DTG printing, which requires pretreating fabrics, DTF can be applied directly to fabrics without special treatments.
Durability: DTF prints are highly durable and resistant to cracking, fading, or peeling, making them great for long-lasting designs.
